Sheikh Hasina's government fell in August. Hasina was ousted due to student protests. After that, the interim government was sworn in under the leadership of Muhammad Yunus. With the change of power, there has been a change in foreign policy and diplomacy. Bangladesh has also stated several conditions for maintaining bilateral relations with India.
Dhaka has already withdrawn several officials from its embassies in Delhi and Kolkata. This time, Bangladesh is recalling Ambassador Mustafizur Rahman in India. However, it is not known why this decision was taken. Analysts believe it could be a new part of the interim government's diplomatic priorities.
It should be noted that Mustafizur Rahman was serving as the High Commissioner of Bangladesh in India since 2020. He has worked closely with India on Bangladesh's trade, connectivity and regional security issues. Bangladesh announced the withdrawal of Sheikh Hasina almost two months after she was ousted from power.
Incidentally, after the political change in Bangladesh, like Awami League leaders and activists, Hindus and religious minorities are allegedly being tortured. Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi sent a message to Yunus to take steps to ensure the safety of Hindus and minorities. However, Yunus's government targeted India on multiple issues, including Bangladesh flood, Teesta agreement.
Meanwhile, Bangladesh Foreign Adviser Touhid Hossain held a meeting with Indian Foreign Minister S Jaishankar on the sidelines of the United Nations General Session. They discussed about improving relations between the two countries. On Wednesday, Towhid held a meeting with India's High Commissioner to Bangladesh, Prannoy Verma.
