New Delhi. Union New and Renewable Energy Minister Pralhad Joshi said that in the last 10 years, electricity production from green sources in the country has increased by 86 percent to 360 billion units. With this, India is the only G-20 country that has met its climate targets ahead of schedule. The New and Renewable Energy Minister said this while addressing the ongoing 'Hamburg Sustainability' conference in Germany, an official statement said. Joshi said India has achieved significant growth in its renewable energy capacity since 2014.

This has increased by 175 percent to more than 208 GW today, which was 75 GW at that time. Total renewable energy generation increased by 86 percent to 360 billion units from 193.5 billion units earlier. He said, “India is the only G-20 country that has met its climate targets ahead of schedule. We have achieved this target despite having the lowest per capita emissions among the G-20 countries.

The minister said India is also upgrading its port infrastructure. Its aim is to promote green shipping fuels and vessels using hybrid models. “As we move towards achieving net zero carbon emissions, the need for sustainable maritime transport has become increasingly important,” he said. India is making significant progress in the green shipping sector, driven by government initiatives, technological advancements and international collaboration.'' Joshi also invited global companies from the region to explore opportunities in India's ambitious green hydrogen and renewable energy sectors.
