The People's Rights Council has demanded that no one who has done politics be appointed to the Election Commission. The general secretary of the People's Rights Council, while talking to the journalists at the secretariat today after submitting names to the search committee for the formation of the election commission. Rashed Khan said this.
The People's Rights Council has submitted three names for the post of Chief Election Commissioner and three for the post of Election Commissioner. The Public Rights Council has proposed the names of university teachers, former army officers, doctors, lawyers and former secretaries for appointment to the posts of CEC and EC.
Rashed Khan said, 'The Election Commission needs to be formed with people who can actually deliver a free, fair and impartial election. We do not want this commission to be formed with people who work for the rehabilitation of Awami League.
The general secretary of the People's Rights Council said, 'We want the commission to consist of people who can actually create a history in this new Bangladesh. Thousands of people have given their lives, blood – to see a Bangladesh where there will be democracy. But our democracy has repeatedly stumbled only because of the Election Commission.'
Rashed Khan said, 'Anyone who has done any party politics, any party should not be appointed in this commission. No person who has done student politics in the past can be appointed to this commission.'
Apart from this, the general secretary of the People's Rights Council also demanded that no such bureaucrat should be appointed to the commission because he had minimal ties with the Awami League and was identified as a beneficiary of the Awami League. He said, 'In the past we have seen only bureaucratic Election Commission, this time we don't want that. We want a university teacher to be appointed to this commission.'
