Sheikh Hasina 'Prime Minister' in congratulatory message of A.L. to Trump, what is India saying?

Awami League issued a statement congratulating Donald Trump after his victory in the US presidential election. Sheikh Hasina was referred to as 'Prime Minister of Bangladesh' in the statement given on Tuesday.

In view of this, India has confirmed its position regarding Sheikh Hasina. The neighboring country said that India considers Awami League president Sheikh Hasina, who left the country in the face of the student movement, as the former prime minister of Bangladesh.

India's External Affairs Ministry spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said this in response to questions at the ministry's weekly briefing on Thursday (November 7).

Randhir Jaiswal said, 'We have already said from here that she (Sheikh Hasina) is a former Prime Minister of Bangladesh. So, that is our position on this matter.'

An Indian journalist raised the issue of referring to Sheikh Hasina as 'Prime Minister of Bangladesh' in Awami League's statement congratulating Donald Trump at the weekly briefing and asked whether India considers Sheikh Hasina as a former prime minister or as a 'prime minister in exile'. In response, the spokesperson of the Ministry of External Affairs, Randhir Jaiswal, highlighted the position of the Indian government.

On August 5, Sheikh Hasina left Ganabhaban and went to India in the face of mass uprising by students. Since then he is in New Delhi. However, the Government of India has not informed about the status in which he has been kept.
