New Delhi. Afghanistan cricket team has got a new star. During the ODI series being played against Bangladesh, Allah Ghazanfar created a sensation by taking 6 wickets in a match. This bowler, just 18 years old, took a special record of Afghanistan's star spinner Rashid Khan in his name. Now he has registered the record of taking 6 wickets in ODI at the youngest age for the team.
Afghanistan registered a strong victory over Bangladesh in the first ODI played at Sharjah Cricket Stadium. The hero of this victory was spinner Allah Ghazanfar who took 6 wickets for 26 runs and bundled out Bangladesh for 143 runs. While chasing the target of 236 runs, the team lost only 2 wickets for 120 runs. After this, Ghazanfar changed the course of the match by taking three wickets in a single over.
Rashid Khan's record broken
Allah Ghazanfar became the youngest player in One Day International to take six wickets in a match and left his own countryman Rashid Khan behind. He has reached third place in the list of bowlers who have done this. Ghazanfar has achieved this feat at the age of 18 years and 231 days. Rashid Khan took 6 wickets for 17 runs against West Indies in 2017 at the age of 18 years and 262 days. In the list, Waqar Younis (18 years, 164 days) is at first place and Rashid Khan (18 years, 174 days) is at second place.
Who is Allah Ghazanfar?
Afghanistan's young sensation Allah Ghazanfar started his career as a fast bowler but former Afghan captain Daulat Ahmadzai transformed him into a mystery spinner. Attracted everyone's attention by taking eight wickets in four matches in the 2024 Under-19 World Cup. Thanks to this performance, he got a chance to make his ODI debut at the age of 16 against Ireland in March 2024. Ghazanfar played an important role in his team winning the title for the first time by taking 2 wickets against Sri Lanka A in the final of the Emerging Asia Cup and became the man of the match.
Be a part of Kolkata Knight Riders team
Ghazanfar was also a part of the IPL-winning Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in 2024. He was included in the team in place of Mujeeb Ur Rahman but he did not get a chance to play for the franchise. He has played six ODIs for Afghanistan and has taken 10 wickets so far. Played a key role in Afghanistan's first ODI series win against South Africa and took four wickets in three matches.
