Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky told European leaders that a concession to Russia would be 'suicidal' for Europe. He made these comments on Thursday after the Kremlin called on Western countries to hold direct talks to stop the invasion of Ukraine. After the election of Donald Trump as the US president, Ukraine is trying to create cooperation and support for its allies. French news agency AFP reported.
Addressing European leaders at a summit in Hungary, Zelenskiy said some European leaders were offering concessions to Russia for peace. Making some concessions to Putin is unacceptable for Ukraine and suicidal for Europe.
He further said, we need enough weapons, not talks. No solution will come from hugging Putin. Many have embraced him over the past 20 years. But the situation worsened.
Trump has claimed in the past that he could end the conflict within hours and has repeatedly criticized US aid to Kiev.
Russian President Vladimir Putin has stipulated that Ukraine must cede much land in the east and south for peace talks. But Kiev has made it clear that they will not give up any territory in exchange for peace.
On Thursday, Russia claimed that if Ukraine's allies wanted to stop the attacks, they would have to negotiate directly with Moscow. The head of Russia's Security Council, Sergei Shoigu, said the West now has two options: Continue the destruction of the Ukrainian people by funding Kiev, or accept reality and sit down for negotiations.
Zelensky has said in the past that without US help, Ukraine could lose this war. The Ukrainian army continues to retreat in the eastern Donbass region. Russian forces have been slowly advancing in the region for the past few months.
