On the day of Trump's victory, Russia talked about 'resetting' relations with the US

Donald Trump's victory in the US presidential election is certain. Only the official result announcement is left. And on the day of Trump's victory, Russia, the enemy of the United States, gave the idea of 'reset' or reconstruction of relations with the country. Kirill Dmitriev, chief executive of Russia's sovereign wealth fund, gave the idea. This information is known from the report of the news agency Reuters.

Kirill Dmitriev said on Wednesday that there are new opportunities to rebuild relations between Moscow and Washington. Dmitriev, one of the most influential leaders of the Russian political circle, made these comments at a time when Donald Trump declared himself the winner of the US presidential election.

Earlier, tensions between Moscow and the West escalated into the biggest conflict since the 1962 Cuban Missile Crisis following Russia's invasion of Ukraine in 2022. At that time, the Soviet Union and the United States were on the brink of nuclear war. Diplomats in Russia and the United States say relations between the world's two biggest nuclear powers are at their worst since the depths of the Cold War.

Dmitriev, one of Russia's political elite and chief executive of the country's sovereign wealth fund, also said, “Trump's team won the presidency and the Senate despite a massive disinformation campaign against them.”

The former official of the global investment firm Goldman Sachs also said, 'Their (Trump and his Republican Party) victory is an expression of resentment among ordinary Americans for the unprecedented lies, inefficiency and hatred of the Biden administration. It creates new possibilities for re-establishing relations between Russia and the United States.'

Earlier, in 2009, then US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton proposed to 'reset' relations with Moscow. However, his speech was mistranslated at that time. Instead of what he called 'reset', the Russian press wrote 'overload' in Russian. Despite efforts at the time, relations between Russian President Vladimir Putin and US President Barack Obama deteriorated.
