BNP has submitted the names of 5 members to the search committee for the formation of the new Election Commission (EC). BNP Standing Committee Member Salahuddin Ahmed and Joint Secretary General Shahid Uddin Chowdhury Annie gave the list of names to the Secretary of the Cabinet Division on Wednesday afternoon.
BNP media cell member Shayrul Kabir Khan confirmed the matter.
Meanwhile, on the same day, a list of names of 5 members has been submitted by the 12-party coalition. In the afternoon, Bangladesh LDP Chairman Shahadat Hossain Salim and Bangladesh National Party Chairman Syed Ehsanul Huda submitted the names of 5 people as Election Commissioners to the Secretary of the Council of Ministers Division.
Before this, the search committee issued a notification seeking names for the formation of the new Election Commission (EC) last Sunday.
According to the Chief Election Commissioner and Other Election Commissioners Appointment Act, 2022, the search committee formed to recommend the names of qualified persons to the President for the appointment of Chief Election Commissioner and other election commissioners is inviting names of interested persons. Political parties and professional organizations can propose names of up to 5 people to be recommended for the post of Chief Election Commissioner and other Election Commissioners by 5 pm on November 7. Individuals interested can also suggest their names.
