BNP Standing Committee member Gayeshwar Chandra Roy said that BNP founder and former president Ziaur Rahman gave opportunity to all banned political parties to do politics. He gave the eloquent Awami League a chance to do politics. First leader of Awami League Bhasani, second leader Ziaur Rahman.
He said these things at the historic November 7 discussion on 'Today's Bangladesh in the context of the Great National Revolution and Solidarity Day' organized by Freedom Forum at Abdus Salam Hall of the National Press Club on Monday (November 4).
Gayeshwar said that absolutizing power by banning a political party never results in anything good. Those who will be banned, they have banned themselves and fled the country. There is no one to make a statement, no one to make a slogan.
He said, 'People from all walks of life made the country independent and Awami League formed the government. They write the constitution in seventy-two, are they following the constitution? Theft, robbery, robbery, bank robbery, women's suffrage – were these written in the constitution? They are the ones who violated the constitution of 72. They are the ones who violate the constitution and establish one-party rule. In the last 52 years, there is no party in Bangladesh that violated the constitution like Awami League. Sheikh Hasina has not obeyed the law so far. Now fearing the law. If he was not afraid, he would not have left the country.'
Saluting the student leaders who led the July revolution, this leader of BNP said, 'People of the country will be happy if they do what they should do based on their experience in forming Bangladesh. The people of the country want elections, BNPO wants elections. No stubborn decision brings peace.'
BNP Vice Chairman Shamsuzzaman Dudu said, 'What Awami League has been promoting for the last 20 years about November 7 is a terrible incident. The countrymen did not take that seriously. Awami League was in their hearts. Shaheed Ziaur Rahman is a leader of Bangladesh, without whom freedom, sovereignty and democracy cannot be imagined in Bangladesh. Whoever does not respect Shahid Zia is actually a broker of fascism. Those who do not obey him do not deserve to live in Bangladesh.
He said, 'Sheikh Mujibur Rahman banned all political parties and newspapers in the country. Ziaur Rahman exposed all the political parties, even his political party (Awami League). Awami League was reborn by Ziaur Rahman. Maulana Bhasani is the first father of Awami League, Ziaur Rahman is the second father.
