US House of Representatives member Rashida Talib has declined to endorse Democratic candidate Kamala Harris. He said this at a public meeting organized by the United Auto Workers Union (UAW) on Friday (November 1). The US media The Detroit News reported.
Talib is one of the few top Democrats not to endorse Harris for president. He is the only Palestinian-American in the US Congress. Rashida Talib has been a vocal critic of the Biden administration's moral stance on the year-long Israeli aggression in Gaza.
That same day, he also criticized Trump's campaigning in the Muslim-majority city of Dearborn, Michigan, on social media X. “Let's not forget, Trump is a proud Islamophobe and a prolific liar,” he wrote. But the fact is, the Biden administration's tacit support for Israeli genocide has brought us here. It's time for everyone to wake up.'
Many Arab American leaders have supported Trump. Among them are the two Muslim mayors of Dearborn Heights and Hamtramck.
Talib said to the supporters present in the public meeting, 'Don't underestimate your power. People hold more power than all advertisements, announcements, campaigns. We must fight unitedly. The country must be saved from the greedy.
At this stage of the speech, he talked about the election of judges. Talib expressed his support for Kiara Harris Bolden and Kimberly Thomas, the Democratic nominees for the Michigan Supreme Court. Their opponents in this election will be Republicans Patrick O'Grady and Andrew Fink.
Talib is a member of the so-called left-wing four-member 'squad'. The other three are Ayanna Presley, Ilhan Omar and Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez. Except for Talib, all three have endorsed Harris.
Meanwhile, Ocasio-Cortez joined Talib at the rally. He expressed his support for Harris there.
“Michigan is a place that offers wonderful events,” Ocasio-Cortez said. So the people here will ensure the presidency of Kamala Harris.'
