Yemen's Houthi rebels have claimed to have attacked three ships in the Red Sea and the Arabian Sea. The group said on Monday (October 28) it was part of an effort to enforce a naval blockade on Israel. British news agency Reuters reported this.
Houthi military spokesman Yahya Sariya said in a televised address that the ships were heading for an Israeli port. That is why they were attacked.
According to the latest information received from LSEG, all three vessels that were attacked were registered in Liberia.
The Houthis named one of the ships attacked as Motaroo. The vessel was last seen off the west coast of Yemen in the Red Sea.
Another ship, the SC Montreal, was reportedly targeted by the Houthis in the Arabian Sea on its way from Port Victoria, Seychelles to Salalah, Oman.
The third ship was Maersk Kowloon. It was attacked by the Houthis en route from the western Indian Ocean to Salalah.
British maritime security firm Ambre said two explosions hit a commercial vessel 14 nautical miles southwest of Al Dhubab, Yemen.
The Houthis have vowed to continue attacking ships linked to Israel until Israeli forces end their aggression in Gaza and Lebanon. As a result, there is a danger of creating a serious crisis around this waterway, one of the most important in world trade.
