Individuals will be punished for crimes, not institutions. Therefore, the workers have nothing to fear, said Labor and Employment Adviser Asif Mahmud Sajib Bhuiyan.
He said this in an event at Dhaka University's TSC auditorium on Saturday (October 26) afternoon.
Stating that the government is taking action against the owners of big institutions in Bangladesh due to money laundering and loan defaults, the advisor said, 'The government is trying to keep the institutions functioning. Individuals will be punished for individual crimes, workers have nothing to fear.'
Asif Mahmud said that it is possible to reduce the price of everyday products if the big companies are willing, “We are not captive in the hands of corporates.” The government is ready to take any measures to control the market. Enabling field administration was a major challenge. There are changes. Skilled officials are being sent to the field, so that they can do public welfare.'
A recommendation has been made to the Ministry of Commerce to add student representatives to the task force, the adviser said. He said, 'Consumer Rights Act is being revised and strengthened.'
Asif Mahmud said that if anyone wants to break the middleman and syndicate and reach the products directly from the farmer to the consumer, they will be given all kinds of cooperation. He said, 'various types of products are imported into the country. There too it goes into the hands of middlemen. Initiatives will be taken to import products directly through Jituji.
The event was also attended by Commerce Secretary Md. Salim Uddin, Labor and Employment Ministry Secretary AHM Safikuzzaman and National Consumer Protection Directorate General Mohammad Alim Akhtar Khan and others.
