India's series loss at home after 12 years

India made the home ground a fortress in the Test. Since 2012, they have been unstoppable at home. New Zealand attacked them in that kingdom. The Kiwi team defeated the hosts by 113 runs in the second Test of the three-match series in Pune. Rohit Sharma got the bitter taste of series loss at home after 2012. And New Zealand created history by winning the first series (2-0) on Indian soil.

New Zealand scored 259 runs in the first innings. In reply, India were bowled out for 156 runs in the first innings. After New Zealand's second innings ended on 255 runs, India's target stood at 359. The rest failed in reply, but opener Yaswasi Jaiswal gave hope with aggressive batting from the start. At one stage India's score stood at 96 runs with 1 wicket in his batting. When Shubman Gill returned for 23 runs, the pair of 62 runs was broken. Jaiswal's solo fight also stopped at 77 runs. After his fall for 127 runs as the third wicket, the collapse did not take long. Their innings stopped at 245 runs as the rest slowly joined the procession. Ravindra Jadeja delayed the victory by resisting for 42 runs towards the tail. He was dismissed as the last wicket.
Like the first innings, the main killer in the second innings was left-arm spinner Mitchell Santner. He took 6 wickets for 104 runs in 29 overs. Ajaz Patel took two for 43 runs. Santner took 13 wickets for 157 runs in two innings. He is also the man of the match. Third best bowling by a visiting team.
