Realizing the need to re-evaluate the role and structure of the Rural Electrification Board (REB) and the Rural Electricity Association, the Power Department has constituted a National Committee chaired by BRAC University Vice Chancellor Professor Syed Farhat Anwar.
It was informed that this committee has been formed through an office order of the Electricity Department on Thursday (October 24).
According to the Electricity Department, in recent times, almost 100% of the electricity network has been expanded in the entire country, including rural areas. Rural Electrification Board and Rural Electricity Association have played a leading role in this regard. In this context, this committee has been formed to review their structure. Professor of Asian Center for Development AK Enamul Haque, Professor of EEE Department of BUET. Ziaur Rahman Khan, BRAC University Professor Mohammad Mahbub Rahman, Dhaka University IBA Professor Khaled Mahmud will work as members of the committee, said the power department.
The committee's terms of reference include reviewing the foundation documents of BREB and PBS; Review the organizational structure of BREB and PBS; Interviewing representatives of BREB and PBS (Palli Vidyut Samiti) employees at all levels and representatives of any concerned person or organization or association; and reviewing relevant documents and files of BREB and PBS.
BREB and PBS will provide all their documents at the Committee's request. On the basis of review and interviews, the committee will recommend an appropriate framework for a competitive, technically efficient, financially sustainable and efficient rural electrification sector capable of providing efficient services. The committee may co-opt any member if necessary.
