Sheikh Hasina's student organization banned, Awami League also under threat; Will the party be out of the elections?

After Bangladesh Badar, a plan was being made to ban parties and organizations following the ideology of Sheikh Hasina. Now the interim Yunus government of Bangladesh has started implementing this plan. In a major blow to Sheikh Hasina, her student organization Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) has been banned. The Yunus government has taken this decision because of the student organization's involvement in violent attacks. BCL is accused of creating havoc during the student protests that took place after the fall of Sheikh Hasina's government in August.

Student organization banned due to terrorist activities

An official statement issued by the Yunus government said, “The Government of Bangladesh has banned the Bangladesh Chhatra League under the anti-terrorism law.” News agency AFP has mentioned this information in its report. According to the government notification, the Chhatra League has faced many serious allegations during the last three terms. These mention murder, oppression, torture and other activities. Sheikh Hasina's Chhatra League is considered a threat to public security. The notification also said that the Chhatra League has been banned with immediate effect under the provisions of the Anti-Terrorism Act of 2009.

Peaceful protests against Hasina's government that began in July turned violent when Chhatra League members attacked student protesters on university campuses. Attempts by pro-government groups to quell the protests further stoked public anger, resulting in the fall of Hasina's government. According to officials, more than 700 people were killed in the violence, most of whom were killed in clashes between police and anti-Hasina protesters. This month, a Bangladesh court issued an arrest warrant against Hasina.

Will Awami League also be banned?

Let us tell you that after Sheikh Hasina fled the country in August, the mob attacked Gana Bhavan (Bangladesh Prime Minister's residence). Hasina wanted to record her farewell speech, but as the protesters were getting closer to the Gana Bhavan, the Army gave her 45 minutes to leave the country to save her life. After this Sheikh Hasina had tendered her resignation. After the fall of Hasina's government, many of her associates have been arrested. He has been accused of being involved in police action. Former ministers and senior Awami League members have been arrested, while judges and central bank officials appointed by them have also been removed. Now it is being said that Sheikh Hasina's party in Bangladesh has planned to stop Awami League and other like-minded parties from political participation.

According to Bangladeshi media reports, Mahfooz Alam, special assistant to the interim government, said that Sheikh Hasina's Awami League party may face administrative and legal obstacles to engage in political activities. Mohammad Yunus, 84, took charge as the chief advisor to the interim government of Bangladesh on August 8. Earlier, Sheikh Hasina had fled to India on August 5 following violent protests. Mahfooz Alam, a Yunus loyalist, said, “Those who entered Parliament illegally by taking part in the last three elections and deceived the public, obstacles will be placed on their political participation.”
