Jharkhand Legislative Assembly Election 2024: Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren's wife and JMM MLA Kalpana Soren is contesting from Gandey assembly seat. Kalpana has filed her nomination from Gandey today (24 October). Kalpana is contesting here against BJP's Muniya Devi.
Kalpana Soren has been elected from Gandey in the by-election this year. Once again she is trying her luck in the elections. After filing the nomination, Kalpana has also given this information on 'X'. He wrote in his post, “To serve my people of Gandey Assembly, I filed my nomination papers today as a JMM candidate in the upcoming assembly elections.”

JMM MLA Kalpana further writes, “The affection of the people of Gandey Assembly, the blessings of respected Baba Dishom Guru ji and mother and the company of Hemant is my courage, my strength, my faith. Gandeya will win! Jharkhand will win! Same slogan, Hemant again.
Now talking about Kalpana Soren's by-election performance, she got 109,827 votes from Gandey seat. He defeated Dilip Verma of BJP. 82,678 voters had cast their votes in support of Dilip Verma. When JMM's Sarfaraz Ahmed won this seat in 2019, he got less votes than Kalpana. This time BJP has not given ticket to Dilip Verma in Gandey.

JMM has won 5 elections and one by-election from Gandey.
Before the formation of Jharkhand, the first elections were held on Gandey seat in 1977. Then this seat was won by Janata Party. In the next four elections, Congress won once, JMM twice and BJP once. JMM candidates won the first two elections after the creation of Jharkhand. After this, Congress won in 2009. In 2014, this seat again came to BJP. In the 2019 elections, this seat went to JMM and JMM retained its victory in the by-elections also.
