Failure of interim government may delay establishment of franchise: Aman

BNP Chairperson's adviser and former minister Aman Ullah Aman said that if the interim government fails, the restoration of democracy and establishment of people's right to vote may be delayed.

He said these things at a discussion meeting organized at Tafazzal Hossain Manik Mia Hall of National Press Club on Monday (October 14). Bangladesh Youth Forum organized this on the occasion of the death anniversary of Saifuddin Ahmed Moni, the architect of the 90's student uprising.

Aman Ullah Aman said, 'We want to cooperate with the government. Acting Chairman of BNP Tariq Rahman said, we fully support this government and will do it for a fair election. This election should be held as soon as possible.'

He said, 'We hope that after getting the report of the commission that this government has done, the next thing to do is to conduct a fair election through an impartial election commission. Power will be handed over peacefully to the 18 crore people of Bangladesh who will vote in this election. The country will run peacefully. It will also solve all the problems of the country. At the same time, the demands of the students and the people of the country must be fulfilled. Everyone should work together.'

Referring to BNP's agitation and struggle for many years, Aman said, 'Ziaur Rahman brought democracy to this country once, and Khaleda Zia again. And after 16 long years of agitation led by Tariq Rahman, we got democracy through the mass movement of the students. We have to hold on to the way democracy has been achieved.'

Regarding the trial of journalist couple Sagar-Rooney's murder, he said, 'We have not yet received the trial of Sagar Rooney's murder. Sagar-Rooney's murder must be prosecuted immediately, and this trial must be speedy. The only reason why Sagar-Rooney's murder trial has been delayed so far is because the Awami League government was involved. Then the report was not submitted and there was a delay. But today this trial should not be delayed.'

Remembering Saifuddin Moni, he said, 'Saifuddin Moni's dream will be fulfilled only when a democratic government is established by guaranteeing people's right to vote. With the united efforts of all, we will soon get back a democracy, soon get back the right to vote and soon get a government of the people. Where the government of this country will be run by the people.'

President of Bangladesh Youth Forum Mohammad Saidur Rahman presided over the meeting as the chief guest was former GS Nazimuddin Alam, nationalism coordinator Dr. Fariduzzaman Farhad and others.
