Trudeau has been the Prime Minister of Canada for the last 9 years, now his own party MPs have asked him to step down.
Canadian PM Justin Trudeau is facing opposition within his own party. Liberal Party MPs have given Trudeau time till October 28 to step down from the post of Prime Minister. Angry leaders told Trudeau to either step down or be prepared to face a rebellion.
According to media reports, 24 MPs from Trudeau's party have demanded the removal of the PM before the elections. For this he has also signed a demand letter. This demand letter signed by the MPs has not been made public yet. In this letter, the MPs have demanded Trudeau to resign before the elections in view of the danger of defeat in next year's general elections.
MPs have asked Trudeau not to run for the post of Prime Minister for the fourth time. No Canadian leader has won election for the fourth time in the last 100 years.
This challenge before Trudeau has come at a time when his government is embroiled in a major diplomatic tension with India over the killing of Khalistani terrorist Hardeep Singh Nijjar.
NDP's pro-Khalistan leader Jagmeet Singh had withdrawn support from the Trudeau government.
MP said – Trudeau should give up his claim like Biden PM Trudeau also met 20 Liberal Party MPs behind closed doors on Wednesday. In this meeting, British Columbia MP from Liberal Party Patrick Wheeler said that the PM's resignation is necessary to win the elections next year.
Weiler said that in America, under Biden's leadership, the Democratic Party was far behind in the elections. After this he left the claim and put forward the name of Kamala Harris. This strengthened the lead of the Democratic Party. He said that the Liberal Party can make a comeback in Canada also in the same manner.
Ken MacDonald, Liberal MP from Newfoundland, Canada, said Trudeau needs to listen to the people. He said there are many of his colleagues who are looking to contest the upcoming election but are nervous about the poor polling numbers and the Liberals' declining popularity.
Currently, the Liberal Party has 153 MPs in the House of Commons, the Parliament of Canada.
Earlier this month, the New Democratic Party (NDP), an ally of the Trudeau government, had withdrawn its support. Since then Trudeau has been running the government without majority. The NDP is the party of pro-Khalistani Canadian Sikh MP Jagmeet Singh.
