During the BRICS Summit, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has enumerated the usefulness of BRICS in today's challenging times. On Wednesday, PM Modi said that the whole world is expecting the BRICS group to play a positive role. PM Modi said that today the world is facing challenges and BRICS can play an important role in its solution. PM Modi has also congratulated Russian President Vladimir Putin for the successful organization of the BRICS summit in Kazan, Russia. PM Modi said on Wednesday, “I believe that BRICS, as an inclusive platform, can play a positive role on all issues. We support dialogue and diplomacy, not war. The way we together have overcome challenges like Covid.” “In the same way, we are fully capable of creating new opportunities for a secure, strong and prosperous future for future generations.”
PM Modi mentioned different challenges in the world today. These include war, economic uncertainty, climate change, terrorism and division between countries. He said, “In the age of technology, new challenges like cyber security, deep fakes have emerged. In such a situation, there are a lot of expectations from BRICS.” PM Modi has appealed for cooperation to combat terrorism and terror funding and said there can be no room for double standards on such serious issues. “We must take proactive steps to prevent radicalization among the youth of the country,” he said, adding that we have to work together on the pending issue of the Comprehensive Convention on International Terrorism in the United Nations.
PM Modi has said that India is ready to welcome new countries into BRICS but all decisions in this context should be taken unanimously and the views of the founding members of BRICS should be respected. He said, “Last year African countries were added to BRICS. This year too, Russia has invited many countries of the Global South. Modi said, the BRICS group, formed by the confluence of different ideologies, is today inspiring the world to move forward in the direction of positive cooperation. “Our diversity, respect for each other and our tradition of moving forward through consensus is the basis of our cooperation.” BRICS was originally founded by Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa and last year the grouping was expanded to include Egypt, Ethiopia, Iran and the United Arab Emirates.
