Aizawl. Mizo National Front (MNF) president Zoramthanga said his party would oppose any plan to hand over the state's only Lengpui airport to the Indian Air Force (IAF). MNF is the main opposition party in Mizoram. Speaking at a program organized at the party office here on Tuesday to mark 63 years of MNF formation, Zoramthanga said the Lengpui airport serves as a source of connectivity for the state with other areas.
The former chief minister of the state said, “If the government thinks of handing over the Lengpui airport to the Indian Air Force or other agencies, the MNF will oppose it till the end.” The airport cannot be handed over to others at any cost.'' Mizoram Chief Minister Lalduhoma had earlier said that the state government has not yet taken any decision regarding handing over the Lengpui airport to the AIF. He had said that a working committee constituted to look into the feasibility of handing over the airport to the Indian Air Force or private agencies is currently assessing the matter. Its report will be presented in the upcoming cabinet meetings.
