Bangladesh Chhatra League: Bangladesh Chhatra League Banned by Interim Government

Quddus Afrad, Dhaka speculations have come true. Bangladesh Chhatra League, the student body of Sheikh Hasina's party Awami League, has finally been declared 'banned' by the country's interim government. On Wednesday, the Ministry of Home Affairs issued a formal notification to ban Chhatra League as a 'terrorist' organization. Almost all the media in the country are against it
In a statement, the Students' League rejected the whole issue terming it as a 'conspiratorial decision'. At the same time, the organization called the interim government as 'illegal, unconstitutional, anti-national' and demanded its resignation.

On January 4, 1948, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman founded the Student League in the Assembly Hall of Fazlul Haque Muslim Hall of Dhaka University. It was then called 'East Pakistan Muslim Students League'. After the independence war of 1971, it was named 'Bangladesh Chhatra League'. It started to be said – 'The history of the student league and the history of Bangladesh are the same.'

Informed sources claim that this organization gained its scope through the struggle against Jinnah in 1952 to make Bengali the national language. Later, the glorious role of this organization in several opposition movements of Bangladesh is printed in golden letters on the pages of history. Banned overnight is the Student League.
According to the notification of the Ministry of Home Affairs, “In various periods after the independence of Bangladesh, especially during the last 15 years of dictatorial rule, Bangladesh Awami League's fraternal organization Bangladesh Chhatra League has been involved in various activities that disrupt public security, including murder, torture, common room-based harassment, seat trading in dormitories, tender betting, rape and sexual harassment. There was and documentary information regarding this has been published in all major media of the country.

BNP criticized the interim government for not announcing the election date
In some terrorist incidents, the guilt of the organization's leaders and workers has also been proven in court. Since the government has sufficient evidence that even after the fall of the Awami League government on August 5, the Bangladesh Chhatra League has been involved in conspiratorial, subversive and provocative activities against the state and various terrorist activities, therefore the government has requested Section 18 of the 'Anti-Terrorism Act, 2009'. By virtue of sub-section (1), Bangladesh Awami League's fraternal organization 'Bangladesh Chhatra League' has been banned and listed the student body 'Bangladesh Chhatra League' as a banned entity in Schedule-II of the said Act. It further said, this order will be effective immediately.
