GEAPP has tied up with UPEDA to develop a 450-500 MW solar park at a cost of Rs 1,800 crore in areas adjacent to the Bundelkhand Expressway. GEAPP said in a statement on Tuesday that this ambitious project, the first of its kind in India, will establish a green energy corridor on the 296 km long Bundelkhand Expressway.

New Delhi. Global Energy Alliance for People and Planet (GEAPP) has tied up with Uttar Pradesh Expressway Industrial Development Authority (UPEDA) to develop a 450-500 MW solar park at a cost of Rs 1,800 crore in areas along the Bundelkhand Expressway. GEAPP said in a statement on Tuesday that this ambitious project, the first of its kind in India, will establish a green energy corridor on the 296 km long Bundelkhand Expressway. This will serve to transform the Bundelkhand region into a model for solar powered infrastructure.

After extensively studying the feasibility of the project, GEAPP confirmed the potential to set up a solar power project of up to 450 MW on a designated land area of 15-20 meters on either side of the expressway. According to the statement, the project, costing approximately Rs 1,800 crore, will generate power at a competitive rate. This solar park will be established in about 1,700 hectares of land. This solar park will be operated under the 'Build-Own-Operate' (BOO) model.

Its period can be extended up to 25 years from the date of commencement of commercial operations. The project involves a single stage bidding process and the bidder will be selected on the basis of proposal for revenue sharing with the authority. UPEDA has invited global bids for this project on October 8. India's 6,000 km long expressway network has immense potential for renewable energy. In this, the Bundelkhand Solar Highway Project alone has the potential to provide 10 GW of electricity.
