Demonstration in DU demanding cancellation of affiliation of seven colleges

The students of Dhaka University have protested demanding cancellation of affiliation of seven government colleges from Dhaka University (DU).

On Tuesday (October 22) around 9:30 pm, they held a protest march at the university's VC premises. Earlier, students gathered at the VC premises with small processions from various halls.

At this time, the students raised slogans like 'One Two Three Four – Affiliation No More', 'Cancel Affiliation, Must Do', 'Cancel Affiliation – Stop Suffering' etc.

Students said that we have many complications due to seven colleges. We have become burdened with such complications in academic and administrative work. These seven colleges have become the backbone of Dhaka University. We want to cancel this affiliation immediately.

At one stage of the students' protest, the Vice-Chancellor, Treasurer and Proctor of the University appeared there. They talk to the students and agree with their demands.

Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. Niaz Ahmed Khan said to the students, you and we are the same. We also think it needs to be. Dhaka University did not do it alone when it happened. Officially it has been done. So it is not possible to cancel it suddenly. There are some procedures for this. We will talk to the UGC and the Ministry of Education and work on it.

University Treasurer Professor Dr. Jahangir Alam said, we also want the affiliation of seven colleges to be cancelled. So that it can be done quickly, you work from your place and we will also work from our place.

After talking to the Vice-Chancellor, the students announced the program of handing out memorandum and protest march tomorrow. Students say that since our teachers are positive about it. So we want to proceed with the normal process. We will continue our agitation until our demands are met. If necessary, we will go to the UGC, to the Ministry of Education.
