Action against illegal bird shop without license

The forest department is taking legal action against farms and pet shops that do not have licenses.

Environment, Forest and Climate Change Ministry Advisor Syeda Rizwana Hasan has given this instruction to the Forest Department, the Ministry of Environment has informed this information in a notification on Wednesday.

The Office of the Divisional Forest Officer, Department of Wildlife Management and Nature Conservation, Dhaka has issued a notification on August 20 to the owners of pet bird shops to obtain licenses for setting up and operating pet bird shops on an urgent basis.

It is stated that no farmer can produce, raise, farm, buy-sell or import-export any pet-bird without obtaining a license in accordance with rule-4 of the Pet-bird Management Rules, 2020 or any pet-shop operating pet-birds. Can't sell.

Setting up and running farms and petshops without obtaining a license is a punishable offense under the Wildlife (Conservation and Safety) Act, 2012. If any person violates the said provision, he will be punished with imprisonment for 1 year or fine up to 50 thousand rupees or both.

On August 14, in an exchange meeting with officials at the Forest Department, the Environment and Forest Adviser directed the Forest Department to take legal action against the existing irregularities in the capital's Kataban bird market.
