Officials said they completed about 600 missions in two years at the behest of Iranian agents.
“The Internal Security Agency and police have busted an espionage network involving seven Israeli citizens who were working on behalf of Iranian intelligence. All seven have been arrested,” Israeli police said in a statement on Monday. “This network was engaged in gathering sensitive information on IDF (military) bases and energy infrastructure,” it said.
Many missions were carried out at the behest of Iranian agents
Police said the Israeli investigation revealed that the group conducted several missions over a two-year period under the direction of two Iranian agents named “Alkhan and Orkhan”. “The accused knew that the intelligence they provided could jeopardize national security and potentially help the enemy in its missile attacks,” police said. All the suspects are residents of Haifa and the northern region who immigrated from Azerbaijan. These also include a soldier who had fled the army.
