Delhi Government Gopal Rai launches Red light On Gaadi Off campaign to reduce pollution ANN

Delhi Air Pollution: Delhi government is running different campaigns to reduce the increasing pollution. In this sequence, Delhi Environment Minister Gopal Rai started the 'Red Light On – Vehicle Off' campaign on Monday. While starting the campaign from ITO intersection, the Environment Minister appealed to the drivers to contribute in reducing pollution by switching off the engine of the vehicle at the time of red light.

During this, Gopal Rai said that the main reason for the increasing pollution in Delhi at present is the pollution caused by biomass burning and dust as well as the pollution caused by vehicles. Keeping this in view, Red Light On-Car Off campaign has been started.

Gopal Rai said that the people of Delhi have to bear the brunt of pollution coming from outside Delhi. Due to the efforts of the Punjab government, incidents of stubble burning have reduced, whereas the governments of Haryana and Uttar Pradesh are not taking any steps in this direction and incidents of stubble burning are continuously happening there.

Delhi is ready to fight the war against pollution- Gopal Rai

Environment Minister Gopal Rai said that due to the hard work of the people of Delhi and the concerned departments in the last years, the pollution level has reduced by about 34.6 percent. This time again Delhi is ready in this war against pollution.

Gopal Rai told that the Delhi government has started a green war room against pollution, is running an anti-dust campaign to control dust pollution and bio-de-composer is being sprayed in 5 thousand acres to melt the stubble.

What did Environment Minister Gopal Rai say to the UP government?

Gopal Rai said that the people of Delhi have to face the pollution inside Delhi as well as the pollution coming from outside Delhi, which is double the pollution of Delhi. In Delhi, CNG and electric buses are being run to reduce vehicle pollution, while on the other hand in Anand Vihar, thousands of diesel buses coming from Uttar Pradesh are spreading pollution.

What are the benefits of red light on-vehicle off?

Minister Gopal Rai said that it has been observed that if a person leaves for Delhi with his car, he stops at about 8 to 10 red lights till he reaches back home. If he stops at an intersection for 2 minutes and does not switch off his car, he wastes 25 to 30 minutes of fuel, which is unnecessary. Therefore this attitude needs to be changed. Our entire campaign is about making it a habit to stop our vehicles at red lights.

Environment Minister Gopal Rai said that environment friends, RWAs and people related to environment have also been included in this campaign. This campaign is of the citizens of Delhi. The government is not only making its efforts to remove pollution, people's participation is also very important in this.
