Cyclone 'Dana' may hit Khulna

Personal Correspondent: The low pressure over the Bay of Bengal is likely to develop into a deep depression on Tuesday and a cyclonic storm on Wednesday. If it becomes a cyclone, it may hit India's West Bengal and Bangladesh's Khulna division.

These data were obtained from American and European weather forecast models on Sunday (October 20).

According to the weather model, a low pressure has formed in the Southeast Bay of Bengal, which has a strong chance of hitting the coast of Bangladesh in the form of a cyclone. Cyclone 'Dana' has a strong chance of making direct landfall as a severe cyclonic storm (89-11 kmph) over West Bengal, India and Khulna Division of Bangladesh between 12:00 PM on October 23 and 6:00 PM on October 24. Maximum wind speed at landfall is 110 to 120 km/h; With gusts that can reach up to 140 kilometers per hour.

If the cyclone hits the coast during high tide, the coastal areas of Satkhira, Khulna and Bagerhat districts are likely to be inundated by high tides of 6 to 8 feet above normal. However, when low tide hits, these areas can experience 2 to 4 feet higher than normal tides.

Meanwhile, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said that the low pressure created in the Bay of Bengal is gradually intensifying and turning into a cyclone. The cyclone will form on October 23.

In the latest IMD bulletin, a depression will form over the east-central Bay of Bengal and adjoining North Andaman Sea during the next 24 hours. That system will further intensify into a deep depression on Tuesday (October 22). It is then likely to become a cyclonic storm over the east-central Bay of Bengal on Wednesday (October 23).
