Pannu threatened the pilots that there could be a suspected bomb on board.

Vikas Yadav, a resident of Haryana, has been declared most wanted by the American investigative agency FBI for conspiring to murder Pannu. The FBI described Vikas as an officer of the Indian intelligence agency RAW.

Pannu had also threatened last year Earlier, on November 4, 2023, Pannu had released a video and threatened to blow up Air India planes. Pannu had released a one minute video. After this, last year the NIA had registered a case against Pannu under sections 1208, 153A and 506 of the IPC and sections 10, 13, 16, 17, 18, 188 and 20 of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA), 1967. .

Sikh for Justice banned in 2019 The Ministry of Home Affairs, Government of India banned SFJ (Sikhs for Justice) as an unlawful organization under UAPA for its activities on 10 July 2019. On 1 July 2020, Pannu was included in the list of individual terrorists by the Government of India.

NIA registered the first case against Pannu in September 2019. He was declared PO on 29 November 2022. In 2023, the NIA seized Pannu's house and land in Amritsar and Chandigarh. On 3 February 2021, non-bailable warrants were issued against Pannu by the special NIA court.
