The Kerala government on Sunday protested against the notification issued by the Central government recently to lay down conditions regarding fireworks during the Thrissur Pooram festival. The Vijayan government has written a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi arguing that this will hamper the smooth conduct of the prestigious Thrissur Pooram festival. Letter written to PM Modi

In a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi regarding the amendment in the notification issued by the Kerala government regarding fireworks in Thrissur Pooram festival, Kerala Revenue Minister K Rajan said that the notification issued by the Union Ministry of Commerce and Industry on October 11 was extremely disappointing for the Pooram lovers. He also sought the personal intervention of the Prime Minister to amend the rules to allow all celebrations and rituals of Thrissur Pooram to continue.

The Kerala government has argued that these conditions will be detrimental to the smooth conduct of the prestigious Thrissur Pooram festival. In a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, state Revenue Minister K Rajan said the notification issued by the Union Ministry of Commerce and Industry on October 11 has come as a huge disappointment to Pooram enthusiasts, for whom fireworks are an integral part of the festival.

Revenue Minister Rajan said that this condition would make it impossible to display fireworks. As per condition number 6 of the notification, the meeting shed should be at a distance of at least 100 meters from the demonstration site. Since the meeting shed will remain empty during the demonstration. He argued that there is no logic in imposing this distance limit. Along with this, it has also been mentioned in the letter written to PM Modi that as per condition number 4, there should be a distance of 100 meters between the audience and the demonstration area.
