Former minister Imran Ahmed arrested


Dhaka: Expatriate Welfare and Foreign Employment Ministry's former minister Imran Ahmed has been arrested by Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Intelligence Division (DB).

He was arrested in a raid at Banani in the capital on Sunday (October 20) night.

DMP's Media and Public Relations Department Deputy Commissioner (DC) Muhammad Talebur Rahman confirmed the arrest.

He said that the former expatriate welfare minister Imran Ahmed was arrested by the DB. He was arrested from Banani on specific charges.

Imran Ahmad is a five-time Member of Parliament of Sylhet-4 Constituency. In 2018, he was appointed as the State Minister of the Ministry of Expatriate Welfare and Foreign Employment. The following year he became a minister.

Imran became the Minister of Expatriate Welfare and Foreign Employment in Sheikh Hasina's government formed after the election on January 7 this year.

Sheikh Hasina left the country after resigning from the post of Prime Minister in the mass coup on August 5. After that many of his cabinet members and Awami League leaders went into hiding. Many of them are reported to have left the country.

Many ministers, advisers and former parliamentarians of the Awami League government have been arrested since the fall of the government. Finally Imran Ahmed was arrested.
