What is BRICS and how powerful is it?

The journey of the BRICS organization to reach where it is now has been completed in three stages…

First stage – RIC i.e. Russia, India and China – in the 1990s these three countries together form an organization. This organization was led by Russian leader Yevgeny Primakov. The purpose of coming together of the three countries was to challenge America's dominance in the world's foreign policy and at the same time to reestablish our relations.

Second stage- BRIC i.e. Brazil, Russia, India and China – In 2001, investment bank Goldman Sachs had described these four countries as the fastest growing economies in the world. After this, in 2009, these countries came together and formed an organization, which was named BRIC.

third stage– BRICS i.e. Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa – In 2010, South Africa was made a part of this organization to represent the African continent. Then this organization got its final form and it was called BRICS.

Today, BRICS has become the third most powerful economic organization in the world, surpassing the EU.

Even when western countries were stuck in recession, BRICS countries progressed rapidly. In 2008-2009, when western countries were going through economic crisis. Even then the economy of BRICS countries was growing rapidly. The very concept of formation of BRICS organization rests on the basis of 'Rising Economy'.

This means that the economies of those countries which have the courage to move forward rapidly and compete with the western countries. Earlier, western countries were controlling 60% to 80% of the world's economy, now BRICS countries are gradually taking their place.
