A US State Department spokesperson said they would continue to work with Indian officials.
America said on Thursday that it is satisfied with India's cooperation in the investigation into the conspiracy to murder Khalistani leader Gurpatwant Singh Pannu. US State Department spokesperson Matthew Miller said that Indian officials are giving us updates on their investigation and we are giving them updates on our investigation. The Indian team is in Washington to investigate the Pannu case.
Miller also told the press briefing on Thursday that the person who was accused in America of conspiring to murder Pannu is no longer an employee of the Indian government. In fact, America had earlier alleged that Nikhil Gupta, accused in conspiring to murder Pannu, is an associate of an Indian government employee. Together they helped in planning the murder of Pannu in New York.
On October 14, the US had said that India had arrested an intelligence officer accused of trying to assassinate Pannu. The name of this officer was mentioned in Washington Post as Vikram Yadav.
The Government of India had declared Pannu a terrorist under UAPA on 1 July 2020. Pannu has citizenship of Canada and America.
Case of conspiracy to murder Pannu
Indian national Nikhil Gupta was arrested by the Czech Republic Police on June 30, 2023, for conspiring to murder Pannu. After this, Nikhil was extradited to America on June 14, 2024. Nikhil was tried in America where he pleaded innocent.
83 lakh rupees were given to kill Pannu
However, according to American agencies, planning to kill Pannu was done during PM Modi's visit to America in September last year. According to the charge sheet, a former Indian officer had asked Nikhil Gupta to plan the murder of Pannu. Nikhil had made a deal with a person to pay Rs 83 lakh in exchange for work.
After this, in April this year, American media Washington Post claimed in its report that RAW was behind the conspiracy to murder Pannu. According to the report, the entire planning of Pannu's murder was done by Vikram Yadav, a senior RAW officer. He hired a hit team.
Yadav sent information about Pannu to Indian agent Nikhil Gupta, which revealed her being in New York. After this Nikhil Gupta contacted an agent to kill Pannu. However, even before the planning could succeed, Nikhil Gupta was arrested.

- May 2023: According to the US prosecutor, an Indian officer (Vikram Yadav) hired Nikhil Gupta.
- 29 May: Nikhil Gupta started searching for someone who could kill Pannu. However, the person hired to kill Pannu turns out to be an undercover agent of America. For a few weeks, Nikhil Gupta discussed with this under cover agent the method and cost of killing Pannu.
- June 9: Gupta sent cash of 15 thousand dollars (12 lakh 49 thousand rupees) through a person to the hitman hired to kill Pannu. This was advance payment for the murder.
- June 11: The Indian officer told Gupta that Pannu could not be killed yet. Actually, in June, Prime Minister Narendra Modi went on a tour of America. Gupta had also said on phone that nothing could be done for 10 days, otherwise demonstrations would start.
- June 12 to June 14: Gupta told his partner over the phone about a big target in Canada. He said that he will share its details later.
- 18th June: Some people kill terrorist Hardeep Singh Nijjar in Canada. After a few months, Canada accuses India of this murder.
- 19 June: Gupta sends the video of Nijjar's murder to the hitman hired to murder Pannu in America. He writes- This is good news, there is no need to wait now.
- June 24 to June 29: Gupta carried forward the plan to kill Pannu. Surveillance of Pannu started.
- 30 June: Gupta was detained in the Czech Republic at the behest of the US.

Who is Gurpatwant Singh Pannu?
- Gurpatwant Singh Pannu is originally from Khankot, Punjab. He currently lives in America and runs an organization named Sikh for Justice. He has citizenship of both America and Canada.
- In 2019, the Government of India banned Pannu's organization SFJ under the Unlawful Activities Prevention Act i.e. UAPA on charges of carrying out terrorist activities. Under the guise of referendum for Sikhs, SFJ was supporting separatism and extremist ideology in Punjab.
- In the year 2020, Pannu was accused of promoting separatism and encouraging Punjabi Sikh youth to take up arms. After this, on July 1, 2020, the Central Government declared Pannu a terrorist under UAPA. According to media reports, this was the main target of this conspiracy. However, this is not mentioned in the American charge sheet.
