Uttarakhand News Today: In Pithoragarh district of Uttarakhand, the helicopter of Central Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar and State Deputy Chief Electoral Officer Dr. Vijay Kumar Jogdande had to make an emergency landing. The incident occurred when the two senior officers were going to Milam area by helicopter on a three-day visit on Wednesday (October 16).

The weather suddenly turned bad on the way. Because of this, the pilot was forced to make an emergency landing in a field in Ralam area. A three-day visit of Central Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar and State Deputy Chief Electoral Officer Dr. Vijay Kumar Jogdande was proposed to Milam area in Pithoragarh Munsiyari development block.

According to disaster management officer Bhupendra Singh Mehar, his helicopter took off from Dehradun and was headed towards Milam area, where Central Election Commissioner Rajeev Kumar and Deputy Chief Electoral Officer Vijay Kumar Jogdande were taken to Milam Glacier, Nanda Devi area and Indo-Tibetan Border Police. Had to meet the (ITBP) soldiers as well as the villagers of Pachu, Matoli and other areas.

This three-day tour was being conducted with the aim of understanding the election preparations and geographical conditions in the remote and inaccessible areas of Uttarakhand. Under this, the officials had to take stock of the preparations for the election process in the areas around Milam. When the helicopter reached near Milam, the weather suddenly turned bad. It was not possible to fly in bad weather.

Due to bad weather, the pilot decided to make an emergency landing of the helicopter in a field in Ralam area for safety reasons. It is fortunate that there was no accident of any kind during this landing and all the passengers along with the crew remained safe. There were also crew members in the helicopter along with the officers.

The disaster management team and the local administration took necessary steps immediately after the incident and ensured the safe landing of the helicopter. The villagers present in the area also immediately came forward to help the officers and the helicopter crew.

Officials' visit will continue
The Election Commission works towards taking all necessary steps to conduct fair and safe elections in border and remote areas and this visit was planned under this. Due to bad weather, the entire program of the Central Election Commissioner was affected, but the administration kept the situation completely under control.

Officials said that as soon as the weather improves, alternative arrangements are being made to safely reach the Central Election Commissioner and his team to their destination. Despite this emergency, the visit of the Central Election Commissioner will continue and he will soon visit remote areas as part of his scheduled programs.
