Why wasn't disciplinary action taken against Hathuru a year ago?

History tells us that 1 year and 2 days ago on October 13, 2023, Tiger head coach Chandika Hathurusinghe physically bribed Bangladesh's twelfth man Nasum Ahmed in the ODI World Cup match against New Zealand at the Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai, India.

Hathurusinghe was punished for his injustice before the year was over. Besides suspending him from the post of coach, the Bangladesh Cricket Board also mourned him. He also confirmed the dismissal. Not only that, BCB has also appointed a new coach.

BCB president Farooq Ahmed said on Tuesday afternoon regarding Hathuru's punishment and ban, 'Now ICC handles racism and abuse very strongly. If it is something like an assault, it will be handled more seriously.'

The BCB chief tried to explain that an incident could happen suddenly in the circumstances; But a coach cannot bribe any cricketer of the national team.

Farooq Ahmed said without mentioning Nasum Ahmed's name, you know it is a very bad thing for that particular boy. It seems that it is better if something actually happens. He understands very well, he is a player of the national team.' He further added,
'We are human beings. I don't want to defend. Hit at the moment can be a thing. But physical assault is actually something you can't do to a national player at any stage.'

The BCB president called the punishment given to Hathuru as the punishment for that wrongful behavior. 'The punishment for this is Oi Arki. Which is happening now (dismissal and shock notice). That should have happened earlier today.'

After the statement of the BCB chief, the question naturally arises, Hathuru got the inevitable punishment for bribing a cricketer; But why after a year? Why did BCB take action against him after so long?

The board, headed by Nazmul Hasan Papon, also constituted a three-member committee to investigate the reasons behind the failure of the last ODI and T20 World Cup. However, the report of that committee does not mention the incident of Nasum being bribed by Hathuru? Did the investigation committee and BCB cover up the fact that Nasum was bribed to save Hathuru?

Or even though the incident of Nasum being bribed by head coach Hathurusingha was mentioned in the investigation committee report, BCB did not dare to take any disciplinary action against Hathurusingha. On the contrary, the whole incident has passed?

It seems that after listening to the current president of BCB Farooq Ahmed, the three-member investigation committee formed by Mahbub Anam and Akram Khan under the leadership of BCB management Enayet Hussain Siraj had properly investigated and reported.

And so in the mouth of the BCB chief, 'I told you, why is the report not coming out because you insisted so much? I did a lot of work on that report. You heard, I met the victim player on the phone, physically. have spoken I have read the report. Everything is in the report.'

If Farooq Ahmed's words are true, it must be said that Nazmul Hasan Papon and the board leaders of that time did not publish the report even after seeing it. squeezed Even did not take any disciplinary action against Hathuru. Nor did he dare to take it. That is a big administrative failure. Even crime. Nazmul Hasan Papon & Co. will have to take the responsibility.
