Bomb Threat: A direct Air India flight from New Delhi to Chicago was diverted to Iqaluit airport in Canada on Tuesday (October 15) following a false bomb scare online. A total of 10 flights have been stopped and 7 flights canceled after receiving false threats in the last 48 hours.
According to NDTV report, today Air India's Delhi-Chicago flight, Dammam-Lucknow Indigo flight, Ayodhya-Bengaluru Air India Express, SpiceJet flight from Darbhanga to Mumbai (SG116), Akasa Air flight from Bagdogra to Bengaluru ( QP 1373), Alliance Air's Amritsar-Dehradun-Delhi flight (9I 650) and Air India Express flight from Madurai to Singapore (IX 684) received bomb threats.

Yesterday, two Indigo flights and one Air India flight also received fake threats. According to Flightradar24, Air India flight AI127 took off from New Delhi for Chicago at 3:00 am (IST) and was scheduled to land in Chicago at 7:00 am (US time). This is a Boeing 777 aircraft. By 5:38 pm (Indian time) the plane was at the Canadian airport.
What did Indigo say on the bomb threat?
After the flight was grounded following a fake bomb threat, IndiGo said, “We are aware of the situation involving flight 6E98 en route from Dammam, Saudi Arabia to Lucknow. The safety of our passengers and crew is our top priority and we are communicating with the relevant authorities.” “We are working closely with the IAS and are taking all necessary precautions as per the guidelines.”
What did SpiceJet say?
The SpiceJet aircraft landed safely at Mumbai airport and was taken to a different location as a precaution. A SpiceJet spokesperson said, “All passengers disembarked normally and security agencies were immediately informed. After thorough security checks, the aircraft was cleared for onward flights.”
Akasa Air received security alert
An Akasa Air spokesperson said that their plane received an in-flight security alert. The spokesperson said, “The Captain followed all necessary emergency procedures and landed safely at Kempegowda International Airport, Bengaluru at 13:39 hrs. All passengers were deboarded and necessary security checks were conducted by local authorities, following which The aircraft was released for operations.”
An Alliance Air official said all “precautionary measures” are being taken for the Amritsar-Dehradun-Delhi flight, which is undergoing security checks at Dehradun airport. The fake bomb threat was given from an unverified X handle and the Bureau of Civil Aviation Security (BCAS) is investigating the matter.
Three international flights received threats yesterday
Yesterday, two international flights of IndiGo and three of Air India received fake security threats, due to which there was disruption in the operation of outbound international flights and these were investigated. According to the Bureau of Civil Aviation Security (BCAS), a total of three planes received bomb threats.
