Women's T20 WC 2024: The coach enumerated the reasons for India's defeat, said – the players made a mistake in the match, said – I am very sad, if those chances…

Sharjah. The Indian team had to face defeat against Australia in a thrilling match in the ICC Women's T20 World Cup. After this defeat, head coach Amol Majumdar is saddened by the blow to India's hopes of reaching the semi-finals. He said that if the team had been able to capitalize on the few opportunities that came its way, the result would have been different. Australia defeated India by 9 runs in a 'do or die' match on Sunday.

Speaking to the media after the match, Majumdar said, “We were in the match till the last over. Australia won on the basis of its experience. I am saddened by this defeat. We fielded well but missed some chances. If they had seized the opportunity, the situation could have been different. Maybe 10-15 runs would have been less but I would just say that we tried our best.

Apart from dropping three catches, India also lost one stumping opportunity. Apart from this, a close decision on LBW also went against India. Phoebe Litchfield, playing on five runs in the 17th over of the Australian innings, tried to play a reverse sweep but the field umpire gave her out LBW. However, the decision changed after DRS.

India needed 85 runs in the last ten overs. Harmanpreet Kaur and Deepti Sharma were at the crease. When asked what message was given to both of them on the field. Majumdar said, “It was said about chasing the target and also keeping the net run rate in mind. We said that these runs could have been scored had we played with consistency. It was very important for Harman to stay till the end. We were almost close to victory.

India's hopes are now pinned on the match between Pakistan and New Zealand and Pakistan's victory is important for India. Majumdar said, “I want to wish Pakistan all the best. We will keep an eye on the match.
