Tangail's Kalihati Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) has besieged the Upazila Parishad demanding withdrawal of the transfer order. Later they locked the various offices.
On Sunday (August 25) at around 11:30 am, the students and the people organized a human chain and blocked the upazila gate to demand the withdrawal of the transfer order of UNO Shahadat Hussain.
The activists said that UNO Shahadat Hussain has been praised for his exceptional initiatives in the field of education since joining this upazila. He has been able to gain the love and trust of the public with his humanitarian work, creating efficient people-friendly entrepreneurs. Apart from this, they are supporting the landless, helpless, poor people as much as they can with the government money or their own money. The order of his transfer should be revoked.
When the transfer order of Kalihati Upazila Nirbahi Officer spread, there was tension among the students. On Friday (August 23) night, students took out a torch procession and blocked the road. Traffic was stopped on both sides of the road at that time. Later, when the students lifted the blockade around 10:15 pm, traffic started.
Students Russell, Al Amin, Sabbir Rashedul, Rifat, Ashraful, Kabir, Hridoy, Shaon, Habib and Sajid said, 'UNO Shahadat Hussain of Kalihati is honest, dutiful, a good person. We do not accept his transfer order. If the transfer order is not withdrawn within 24 hours, strict agitation will be done.
In a notification on Thursday (August 22), Kalihati upazila executive officer was transferred and posted to Baliakandi upazila of Rajbari.
Kalihati Upazila Nirbahi Officer Shahadat Hussain did not comment on this when contacted.
