Arab Finance: During the activities of Cairo Water Week in its seventh edition, which is held under the patronage of President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, President of the Republic, and within the framework of the partnership between Egypt and the European Union under the umbrella of the “Team Europe” initiative, Dr. Rania Al-Mashat, Minister of Planning, Economic Development and International Cooperation, signed with the Ambassador Christian Berger, Head of the European Union Delegation to Egypt, InitiativeEuropean Green Facility“With a value of 7 million euros, in the presence of Dr. Hani Sweilem, Minister of Water Resources and Irrigation, and Dr. Florica Fink Huijer, Director of the Environment Department at the European Commission.

The initiative aims to promote green transformation in Egypt, and is part of the Team Europe initiative. It is also consistent with development efforts in Egypt, and consistent with the objectives of the national platform of the “Novi” program, the axis of connection between water, food and energy projects, in order to enhance mitigation and adaptation efforts. Climate changes. The Ministries of Water Resources and Irrigation, Agriculture and Land Reclamation, Housing and Utilities, and Urban Communities benefit from it.

The European Green Facility aims to support the policy dialogue organized between Egypt and the European Union in the areas of activities, water and green transformation. It also includes a comprehensive technical support package that will work to enhance the country’s ability to develop sector strategies, improve governance in the water sectors, and strengthen partnerships between… Public and private sectors. The initiative, which provides grants worth 7 million euros, also supports Egypt's efforts to combat climate change.

It is worth noting that Egypt and the European Union announced, last March, upgrading the level of relations to a strategic partnership, during the visit of the President of the European Commission to Egypt, where she signed with President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi the political declaration to upgrade relations, and a financing package worth 7.4 billion euros, to support efforts. Joint development and investments between the two sides, including stimulating green investments. Among the most prominent areas of cooperation between the two sides in the field of green transformation is technical support for the national strategy for green hydrogen, as well as strengthening the energy axis within the “Novi” program to increase renewable energy projects.
