Women's T20 WC: New Zealand won with 15 balls remaining, Sri Lanka will return empty handed, pressure on India increased due to the victory of Kiwis

New Delhi. New Zealand has taken steps towards the Women's T20 World Cup semi-finals by defeating Sri Lanka. This is the second win of the Kiwi team in three matches. New Zealand team is at third position in Group A of India with 4 points. The Sri Lankan team will return home empty handed after losing all four matches. The victory of the Kiwi team has increased the problems of the Indian team. To reach the semi-finals, India will have to defeat Australia at any cost. At present, India and New Zealand teams have equal 4 points from 3 matches but India is ahead of New Zealand in net run rate. Despite the victory of the Kiwi team, it could not progress in the points table. Australia has already confirmed its place in the semi-finals from this group. India will play its final match in the league stage against Australia on Sunday while New Zealand will face Pakistan on Monday.

New Zealand defeated Sri Lanka by 8 wickets. Sri Lankan team won the toss and batted first and could score only 115 runs for 5 wickets. New Zealand registered an easy victory by scoring 118 runs for 2 wickets in 17.3 overs. For the Kiwi team, opener Georgia Plymer scored the highest score of 53 runs while Amelia Kerr returned unbeaten after scoring 34 runs. Captain Sophie Devine scored 13 unbeaten runs. Divine gave his team a spectacular victory through six sixes.

Kiwi team restricted Sri Lanka to 115 runs
Earlier, leg spinner Emilia Kerr and off spinner Leigh Kasparek took two wickets each. Due to which New Zealand allowed Sri Lanka to score only 115 runs for 5 wickets. Sri Lanka won the toss and decided to bat first. From his side, captain Chamari Atapattu scored 35 runs in 41 balls which included five fours. For New Zealand, Kerr took two wickets for 13 runs in four overs while Kasparek took two wickets for 27 runs. Off spinner Eden Carson took one wicket for 17 runs.

Sri Lanka lost all four matches, out of the tournament
Sri Lanka lost the wicket of opener Vishmi Gunaratne (eight runs in 15 balls) in the fourth over. After this, Chamari and Harshita Samaravikram (18 runs on 29 balls) did not allow any wicket to fall for the next 10 overs, but their slow batting increased the pressure on the team. Both of them made a partnership of 48 runs in 60 balls for the second wicket. After both of them were out within two runs, Sri Lanka was able to reach triple digits with the efforts of Kavisha Dilhari (10), Neelakshi De Silva (14 not out) and Ama Kanchana (10 not out). New Zealand gave 15 extra runs which helped Sri Lanka reach a respectable score.

Team India can make it to the semi-finals like this
If India wins its match, then after 3 wins from 4 matches, it will have 6 points equal to Australia. If New Zealand wins both its league matches, it will also have 6 points. In such a situation, whoever is ahead on the basis of net run rate between India and New Zealand will go to the semi-finals. If the Indian team loses to Australia and the New Zealand team loses to Pakistan and defeats Sri Lanka, then all three teams will have 4 points each and here too the matter will come down to net run rate. If India wins its match against Australia and New Zealand loses the last match. In such a situation, India will directly reach the semi-finals. Because Pakistan will have only 4 points after victory over New Zealand while India will have 6 points.
