A cricketer who was shot dead was shot by miscreants in front of his family.


New Delhi. Former Sri Lanka Under-19 captain Dhammika Niroshan was shot dead in July this year. The miscreants had killed him in front of his family. He lived with his family in Ambalangoda town of Dhammika Gaol. Niroshan was shot by an unknown person near his house. He started his career at this place. Sri Lankan Police had said that it was carried out by an underworld gang.

When Dhammika Niroshan was shot, his family was with him. It remained his dream to play for the national team. Dhammika Niroshan could not make it to the Sri Lankan national team. Niroshan used to play as a bowler. His bowling average in first class cricket was around 30. He did his studies from Devananda College.

Dhammika Niroshan played a total of 12 first class matches for Galle Cricket Club between 2001 and 2004. Apart from this, he also participated in 8 List A matches. Niroshan had taken a total of 24 wickets in his career. In the year 2000, Dhammika Niroshan made her debut in the Under 19 team. He commanded the team for 2 years. He played his last match in 2004.

Dhammika Niroshan made his debut for Sri Lanka's Under-19 team in 2000 against Singapore. He continued playing Under-19 Test and ODI cricket for two years. After this he also appeared in domestic Sri Lankan cricket for Chilaw Marians Cricket Club and Galle Cricket Club.
