4 workers of Chhatra League were hacked and injured in Kaptai


It has been alleged that miscreants have beaten and cut four Chhatra League activists in Chandraghona Union of Kaptai Upazila of Rangamati. They were attacked in the KPM Cinema area on Saturday (August 31) night. The families of the injured said that the attackers are involved in BNP politics.

Locals said that on Saturday night in Kaptai's Chandraghona, some youths led by Sohel, who was on bail in the murder case, first beat former BCL leader Azim with a hammer. When Roni, Rafi, Tushar of BCL came forward to save him after getting the news, Sohail's people beat and cut them. After the attack, the attackers marched, while panicked traders quickly closed their shops. Later the injured were rescued and taken to Chandraghona Mission Hospital.

Locals said that Sohel, who led the attack, is accused in the murder case. He is a youth worker. He is currently out on bail in the area. Besides, there are several cases against him in Kaptai police station.

Azim's elder brother Mizan said, 'My brother used to do politics, now he is not active. Russell, Murad, Jisan and others led by Sohail beat him with a hammer while returning home without any reason. He has bruises all over his body. The attackers also beat up some people who went to rescue my brother. They are all involved in BNP politics.'

Attempts were made to contact several Awami League leaders to find out about this incident, but their phones were switched off.

President of Chandraghona Union BNP. Zakir Hossain said, 'I heard the incident after coming home after praying. This is sad. We do not want such incidents in Chandraghona. Actually, I don't know the details of what happened there.'

General Secretary of Kaptai Upazila BNP. Yashin Mamun said, 'I went to the spot after getting the news. I learned that there was a fight between two groups of boys in Chandraghona Cinema Hall area. I went there and saw that a party was also marching. Those who fought, they are not in any position of our party.'

Rangamati District BNP General Secretary Advocate Mamunur Rashid Mamun said, now everyone is becoming BNP. The central directive has already been communicated to the activists. Action will be taken against him as soon as specific complaint is received. No one will be exempted. I have found out that the person who led the incident is not in any position in our party. We have declared a zero tolerance policy against any assault, brutality, extortion and malpractice.

Kaptai Circle Additional Superintendent of Police Zaheed Islam said that he heard the incident of fighting between BNP and Awami League in KPM area. Our team visited the spot. So far no case has been filed in this incident.
