In fact, it is important to check some properties of sand before using it in house construction. Sand found in nature is divided into three categories according to size – coarse, medium and fine. The shape of the sand is related to its stability and density. For example, rough angular sand has higher resistivity than smooth rounded sand.
Sea or desert sands have few of the qualities required for sand to be used in construction. Generally, desert sand is very smooth and fine. Because of this characteristic, desert sand cannot participate in the chemical bonding required during construction. If a structure is constructed with desert sand, it will not have sufficient strength in concrete for small sizes, besides, for exposed structures of desert sand, this sand can carry the load of the structure when dry but collapses when wet.
