Personal Correspondent: At the invitation of a leader of the Pooja celebration committee, Islamic music was performed at the Jamsen Hall Mandap in Chittagong, police said.
Chittagong Metropolitan Police Deputy Commissioner (Crime and Operations) Raich Uddin gave this information in a press briefing on Friday (October 11) afternoon.
Deputy Commissioner Raich said, 'An untoward incident has taken place in the Pujamandap. This has come to our attention. Cultural programs were going on in this pujamandap since evening. Sajal Datta is a member of the Pujamandap Committee, who is the Joint Secretary of the Pujamandap Committee. At his request some members of Chittagong Cultural Academy performed two songs. The wording of one of its songs seems to have hurt the religious sentiments of the devotees present.'
Raich Uddin said, 'The issue quickly spread through social media. Law enforcement immediately addressed the matter. Two of the six who performed the song have been detained for questioning. The case is under process in this incident.
The deputy commissioner said, “We are trying to interrogate the leader of the puja celebration committee who invited the artists to the pujamandap in particular. But he has not been found yet.'
In response to the question whether the matter was planned or not, he said, 'No, from what is known so far, they (artists) sang at the invitation of the Puja celebration committee.'
