Only 20 percent of the approved hilsa went to India

Meanwhile, catching, stocking or storing and marketing of hilsa in the sea and river is prohibited for 22 days from Saturday midnight to November 3.

According to the sources of Fisheries Department and Benapole Land Port, the export of hilsa to India started from September 26 this year. 483 metric tons of hilsa have been exported in 17 days till 4:30 pm on Saturday. However, there were still several trucks loaded with hilsa at the port. The trucks are supposed to enter India this evening.

This year, hilsa from 700 grams to one kilogram weight was exported at an average of 10 US dollars per kilogram, which is equivalent to 1 thousand 180 taka in the country. However, hilsa is sold at a much higher price in the country's market, which is widely criticized and reacted to.

On the occasion of Durga Puja, the Ministry of Commerce initially decided to allow 3,000 tonnes of hilsa export to India, which was later reduced to 2,420 tonnes. This permission has been given to 49 institutions. Out of this, 48 companies got permission to export 50 tons to 2 thousand 400 tons and the other company got approval to export 20 tons of hilsa.
