In the Sindh province of Pakistan, 101 men and women have been murdered in the name of honor killing between January and June 2024. This information has come out in the data released by Sindh Suhai Organization. This organization working for women's rights has expressed deep concern over the increasing incidents of violence, murder and sexual harassment against women in the province.

According to the report, the highest number of honor killing cases were reported from Jacobabad district of Sindh, where 22 women and 12 men were murdered. 17 women and 6 men were killed in Kashmir, while 23 people were killed in Sukkur, 20 in Khairpur, 19 in Ghotki and 12 in Larkana in the name of honour. In other districts of Sindh also, 76 people became victims of this cruel practice.

However, many incidents go unreported and even in cases where the state files complaints, victims' families do not take legal action. Often families compromise with the legal process, due to which strict action is not taken against the culprits and these incidents are increasing continuously.

Despite court rulings on honor killing cases in Sindh, jirgas (tribal councils) in many places still take decisions in such cases. Many times these murders are presented as suicide, due to which the women are buried without justice. In a recent incident, a man buried his wife alive. The man claimed that she had run away from his house. Such incidents are continuously increasing and a pattern has been observed that two women are murdered together.

Sindh Suhai Organization has also said that women are being ignored in government departments. The organization says that there is a need to increase the number of women in the police. The organization has demanded the appointment of more women Station House Officers (SHOs) in police stations so that women can express their issues openly.
