Trudeau had reached Vientiane, the capital of Laos, to attend the East Asia Summit.
Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has said that he has met Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi on the sidelines of the East Asia Summit in Laos. Trudeau said that during this meeting, discussions were held to work on important issues.
However, according to Indian media house NDTV, sources in the Ministry of External Affairs have denied this meeting. There has been no such meeting between the two leaders.
In fact, last year Trudeau had accused India of killing Khalistani terrorist Nijjar. After this, there was tension in the relations between the two countries.
“I emphasized that we have some work to do,” Trudeau said at a press conference in Laos. Trudeau declined to provide further details about the conversation.
Canadian Foreign Minister said- India's relations are tense
Just yesterday, Canadian Foreign Minister Melanie Jolie had described Canada's relations with India as 'tense' and 'very difficult'. He said the threat of killings like Nijjar still remains in Canada.
According to Canadian news CBC, Meloni said that the government is seeking India's help in investigating Nijjar's death, so that those responsible in the incident can be brought to justice. But help has not been received from India yet. The Canadian Foreign Minister said he is concerned about the safety of Canadians.
Earlier in May, Foreign Minister Melanie had said, “We still believe that Indian agents carried out the murder of our citizen on Canadian soil.”
4 accused arrested so far in Nijjar murder case
Taking action in the matter, the Trudeau government of Canada had expelled a senior Indian diplomat from the country. In April this year, Canada had arrested 4 Indian citizens in the Nijjar murder case. Karan Brar, 22, Kamalpreet Singh, 22, and Karanpreet Singh, 28, of Edmonton, were charged with first-degree murder and conspiracy to commit murder. After this, another Indian Amandeep Singh was arrested by Canadian authorities a few days later.
Police had said that the names of the accused are Karan Brar, Karanpreet Singh and Kamalpreet Singh. The age of all three is between 20-30 years.
India had expelled 41 Canadian diplomats After Canada's allegations, India had suspended visa services for the people there. 41 Canadian diplomats were also removed. However, later talks took place at the diplomatic level and visa services were restored after a few months.
Canada had said that it would provide evidence of India's involvement in this murder, which it has not provided till now. Foreign Minister S. Jaishankar has been accusing the Trudeau government many times from different forums of giving shelter to Khalistani terrorists.
