America has maintained an air and naval base in Diego Garcia. For this, America had evicted thousands of people settled here and sent them to Britain and Mauritius.

According to Al Jazeera's report, in 2022, the Lease Truss government had started talks between Mauritius. However, former Prime Minister Boris Johnson of the Conservative Party had opposed this initiative. Johnson said that after handing over this island to them, China can build a base here.
