Samajwadi Party's Rajya Sabha member Jaya Bachchan has distanced herself from the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Communications and Information Technology headed by BJP's Godda MP Nishikant Dubey. Jaya has been replaced by Trinamool Congress leader Saket Gokhale, who was a member of the Labor Parliamentary Committee.

According to the bulletin of the Rajya Sabha Secretariat, Jaya Bachchan will now be a member of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Labour, Textiles and Skill Development headed by former Karnataka Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai.

The Supreme Court reprimanded the Commission of Air Quality Management, said – neither tried to stop the incidents of stubble burning, nor registered cases.

The Supreme Court on Thursday heard the case related to stubble burning incidents. During this, the Commission of Air Quality Management was reprimanded for its failure. The court said- CAQM made no effort to implement its directive to stop such incidents.

A bench of Justices Abhay S Oak and Augustine George Masih said that CAQM has not filed even a single case. A meeting was held on this issue on August 29 itself. In which only five out of 11 members were present, where the implementation of his instructions was not even discussed.

The court also reprimanded the Punjab and Haryana governments, saying that both the states have collected nominal fines from the farmers who burn stubble. The bench has directed the central government and CAQM to file an affidavit on the matter within a week. The case will be heard on October 16.
