(Seoul = Yonhap News) Reporter Kang Seong-cheol = The Overseas Koreans Office (Director Kim Gyeong-hyeop) announced on the 6th that it will provide training to young Koreans to develop their vocational capabilities in their home country.

The purpose is to increase the economic independence of Korean youth and strengthen their sense of solidarity with their home country.

In collaboration with the Korea Hotel and Tourism Foundation (Chairman Yook Gwang-sim), an educational institution specializing in the hotel and tourism field, the Dongpo Office selected 40 young people from Russia, Uzbekistan, and Kazakhstan.

They will receive 120 hours of practical training in Korean cooking and baking by the 30th, and also receive 80 hours of online and offline Korean language training.

In addition, during the training period, they will receive on-site hotel service-related training, such as food and beverage service practice, at a hotel operated by the Education Foundation, and will also participate in historical and cultural experiences such as touring Gyeongbokgung Palace and Bulguksa Temple and learning tea ceremony.

This training is the second customized program prepared following the industrial training in the field of coding and industrial design conducted in June last year.

The entrance ceremony held at the Education Foundation in Ansan-si, Gyeonggi-do on the 5th was attended by Chairman Kwang-sim Yook, Dean Won-young Lee of the Korea Hotel and Tourism Education Foundation, and Kyu-hyun Lee, head of the Russian-Russian Department at the Korean People’s Office.

Dean Wonyoung Lee said, “Food is a vessel that contains culture and has the power to connect people across borders, and it will be an asset to promote Korea to the country of residence.” He added, “I hope that through one month of intensive training, you will gain confidence in getting a job or starting a business, and that you will also establish your identity as a member of the Korean people.”

Established in 1989, the Korea Hotel and Tourism Education Foundation operates Korea Hotel and Tourism College, Korea Culture and Arts College, and Embledon Hotel, providing practical training for workers in the food, tourism and leisure industries.
